Hi Parents,
This week in writing we read the story "Pig the Winner". Then wrote a character description about Pig the Pug. We were also very lucky to have Mr. Scout come in this week and tell us the Indigenous story "Napi and the Rock" as part of our Social Studies learning. We then wrote a response to the story. We were allowed to write about our favourite character or part or retell the story.
In math this week we continued to work on adding numbers with sums up to 20. This week we practiced using the number line as a strategy to help us solve these addition problems. We also learned a new addition game called number Crash.
Our words of the week this week were: back, just, old, there
Our words of the week for next week are: about, been, call, right
We learned a new word work game to help us practice our words of the week, it is called BANG!
In science this week we discussed one of our five senses: sight. We discussed how our sense of sight helps us every day and we learned how our eyes works and communicate to our brain. We also learned about the different parts of the eye and drew and labelled our very own eye diagram in our visual journals. We also learned about people who do not have their sight. We learned how they learn and get around, such as canes and how seeing eye dogs can help them.
In social studies this week we were lucky enough to have Mr. Scout in to tell us an indigenous story, we also had Mrs. Gates in to help us answer some of the questions we had about tipis indigenous people in the past.
Today was lights out day and Winter Sports Day. We had the lights out in the school and classroom all day. Students got to go outside and do to a variety of winter sports stations. We finished the day with a nice warm hot chocolate in the classroom.
Reminders:
Next week is our swimming week. We will be swimming Monday-Thursday next week in the afternoon.
Wednesday March 13th is Fun Lunch
