Our First Week of Grade One!!

Hi Parents!

Wow what a busy first week in Grade 1!

This week we started to create our time capsules. We are going to stuff these with things from the first week of school and keep them closed until the end of the year to see how much we have grown.  For our time capsules Ms. Hill measured our height with string, she took a picture of our teeth, we decorated the cover,  did our neatest printing, wrote how old we were, and drew a self portrait.

On the first day of school, we read "The Kissing Hand" and wrote about how we we feeling on first day of school. Ms. Hill then painted our hand and we made a hand print in our visual journals. Then we traced, cut out and glued a heart onto our hand print.

We learned about the 3 different ways to read
-Read the pictures
-Read the words
-Retell a story.
We did read to self and practiced our  reading stamina. We reached our goal today of 5 minutes. Our goal for next week is 6 minutes

In art, we decorated the cover of our writing books and our name tags for our bins.

In writing, we wrote about what we did this summer and wrote about things that we like

We read the story "Chrysanthemum" and then we counted the number of letters in our names and made a bar graph. The longest name is our class has 8 letters and the shortest name in our class has 3 letters.

We went to our first assembly for this year and did a tour of the school.
We also started gym and music, which are so much fun!!

It was a great first week!
